Make way in your skincare ritual for macerated oils
Want to take your skin from dull to glowing, from reactive to calm, from dehydrated to dewy? Make way in your skincare ritual for macerated oils.
We mainly think of oils as a form of hydration, but oils can also be anti-bacterial, healing and balancing. Oils are also suitable for all skin types. Contrary to popular belief, the application of certain (not all) oils topically to the skin can be really beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin. Often when our skin is oily, or we are suffering from acne we start over-cleansing the skin and using products that dry out the skin. This actually makes the problem worse, because our skin responds by producing more oil to make up for the oil we are stripping from our skin. This is when the pores clog and acne forms.
But, there are so many face and body oils available. And just when you thought you understood essential oils, carrier oils, oil blends we’re here to slide another type of oil in to your skincare ritual – ever heard of macerated or infused oils?
Macerated oils are the result of carefully infusing or macerating dried botanicals into a carrier oil for an extended period of time. This technique allows the beneficial parts from the botanicals to be extracted from the plant and infused into the oil creating a nutrient rich oil that gives you the healing and rejuvenating properties of both the botanicals and the oils.
Like anything, the end product is only as good as the ingredients and technique that are used. So it is really important when choosing a macerated oil is to make sure that a high quality pure carrier oil has been used.
Often you will see the less expensive oils used as the carrier oil, such as sunflower oil, avocado oil or sweet almond oil. However, for our 100% Pure Australian Oils, we chose Jojoba oil, a premium carrier oil that is suitable for both the face and body. Jojoba oil is very similar in properties to the sebum that your skin naturally produces, making it a safe choice for all skin types. Jojoba oil is rich in nutrients, vitamins, and omegas and soothes and helps to heal skin. It also has almost no scent.
Just as important as the carrier oil, are the botanicals that are chosen for the infusions.
For our 100% Pure Australian Brighten Oil, we chose Kakadu Plum. Kakadu Plum has the highest concentration of Vitamin C of any other fruit in the world. Kakadu Plum is infused in this oil for its brightening and anti-oxidant properties and to improve skin elasticity.
Calendula is a beautiful skin soothing ingredient that is rich in antioxidants. It’s known for its incredible skin-calming properties and its ability to improve the appearance of inflamed skin and reduce redness. It is infused in our 100% Pure Australian Balance Oil.
So the next time you step out of the shower, while your skin is still damp and warm, try nurturing the skin on your face and body with a macerated oil. A skincare ritual that will have you feeling yourself.
